I got pushed left for sure, but more in response to the looming force of what the current GOP in power is and represents. I feel like a small portion of the country realized it before the election and post Charlottesville a much larger portion does.

I saw the basics of this coming during the campaign. To me, it was obvious that there was a high risk of Trump winning, and it was obvious that the TrumpGOP were genuine fascists.
But Charlottesville stepped up the pace. That’s when the fascists launched their push for total lockdown.
This sort of privileged complacent bullshit, which is extremely widespread on liberal twitter:

Those people obviously have no clue what they’re talking about. We did indeed have a presidential candidate that promised ponies, but it wasn’t Bernie.

Were it not for the constraints of twitter, that last one would have a caveat: there’s still a very slight chance of a last-minute impeachment, but it’ll be too late to matter if it happens.
