I was picking up a book at our library. The weather was freezing and I saw a tarped shelter in the grassy area of the parking lot. The police have been on a mission to disrupt the homeless, so I was surpirsed to see a tent out in the open. There was a disused beater car next to it. Feeling dispondent about COVID and the election and just everything, I took a ten dollar bill and slipped into the wind-shield wiper. Was I paying forward? Would the person take it as a helping hand or as a self-rightous gesture of pity? I had driven away thinking all these thoughts.
A few days later, I went to the library to return my book. Where the homeless shelter was there was a brand-new electric charging station being installed. Turns out the tarps were just protecting the machine while it was being built. A library patron was in for an unexplained windfall.
The best part is theyâre never going to figure out the backstory. Theyâll probably be telling the tale for weeks!

Canât figure out how to make it one-box. Itâs a lovely little video of a man talking about what it takes to be a dad (with an exceptionally cute kid in his arms, naturally!).
This is absolutely incredible:
I saw it all happen on TikTok. Itâs really nice. The original design was from an expired patent so itâs really not a big deal for it to go into public use.
Anything to do with Betty White always makes me feel good!
Is this the guy who played Drax?
Yes it is.
Thanks. I just guessed, having not really paid a lot of attention to the movies but enough to discuss it with others, sort of.
he is awesome in so many ways.
âNow and in the years ahead, we need, more than anything else, the honest and uncompromising common sense of science. Science means a method of thought. That method is characterized by open- mindedness, honesty, perseverance, and, above all, by an unflinching passion for knowledge and truth. When more of the peoples of the world have learned the ways of thought of the scientist, we shall have better reason to expect lasting peace and a fuller life for all.â The last paragraph of the article based on remarks made by Harry S Truman at the opening session of the Centennial AAAS Annual Meeting, held September 1948, in Washington, DC.
FWIW, The Met has an excellent version of âPorgy & Bessâ tonight through until tomorrow late afternoon.
The last two times they showed it for free during the pandemic, both times they cut the time short (like, about 8 hours short) so if you didnât watch it in the evening you missed it. Hopefully this time (yes, I wrote multiple emails) theyâll leave it up for the full 24 hours.
They have had some wonderful offerings during the pandemic. Iâve never seen Porgy and Bess. Will see if I can get to it in time.
