Agreed, the Nabateans would have been a more accurate reference.

That made me feel super nerdy as when they suggested the Cappadocians I wondered why they didn’t go for the Nabataeans.

There are a bunch of early civilisations that are prime candidates but Nabataeans were marvelled at by contemporary travellers for their mangoes in the desert.

Meta used AI to concoct low-carbon concrete it poured for a datacenter floor

[…]

But while Meta has published info about the strength of concretes it cooked, it didn’t detail the CO2 emissions associated with the concrete mix it used in Rosemount.

Maybe an AI can figure that out.

Built this year.

This factory, which less than 3mi from our neighborhood, was still up & running when I was a child.

Dunno how happy people will be to live so close to a busy railroad (not shown). I love hearing the trains from here, but typing from experience, I don’t want them in my yard.

I lived in a weird building for several months in Pomona, Coliforniyah. A tiny, unmanned, rarely-used - but always saluted by passing trains at all hours - passenger train station was behind it. All that separated it from our building’s rear (which efficiently amplified the whistles) was a smol parking lot, a smol road, a coupla chain-link fences, and a long row of tall oleanders who were lovely, but did nowt to block the sound. Earplugs helped a little.

I’d be more worried about residual industrial contaminants than outside noise.
Some stuff just loves to crawl into concrete.

They’re going to blow it up this noon and it’ll be live on TV.

Worked as planned.
Short video:

They blew up a couple of kiddie pools (without kiddies in them) first to create a water spray to keep the dust down.

That certainly occurred to me, too. tophat-wow

I’d also worry about soil contamination.
