I’ve been through the guidelines and some of the discussions here about content moderation/policy, and I’m not really seeing a solid answer to the question I have.
Basically, I’ve created a thread (The Trans Experience) in which I’d like to post some of the writing I’m doing about my experience as a trans person, and I’m wondering where I should draw the line on some sensitive topics (sex, body issues, self harm, etc.) that might come up in some of that. I do not intend to post pornographic content or anything salacious, but I would like to avoid posting things that are not welcome here and generally avoid stepping on toes.
Would spoilered content warnings be sufficient or should I avoid certain topics entirely?
I don’t have any objections to anything you have described. If you would prefer to keep it from the prying eyes of the those who haven’t logged in and/or the web crawlers, I’d suggest that we move it into the clubhouse, which will also limit participation to TL2 or above. Either way, if you change your mind and want to move it later, let me know.
I’d echo the sentiments expressed and would have no problem with it, personally. I’d be interested in reading whatever you (or anyone else) care to share about your experience and would have been too afraid to ask anyway.
Might be useful to kick it up to level 2 to avoid trolls. Although admittedly, the genderbender thread can be found through search engines and hasn’t attracted any apparently.
I would say the value of the thread lies in the open expression of your reality. Avoiding the struggles and pain makes for a very false narrative. That said, for those who would be triggered, a TW and blur would be considerate. (How does that affect crawlers?) As far as TL2, I am still getting used to being a newbie again. I would be sad to be excluded, but also understand the need to protect the membership from random drive-bys, so will abide by the decision of the group.
As far as I can tell, the only one you’re currently missing is the “days visited” threshold, so in ~13 days you’ll be able to access the clubhouse. I might be able to be convinced to reduce that number, but I’d have to think about it, and there’d have to be a way for other existing users to be able to vote on it.
I myself am grateful that those milestones appear to be permanent, so one doesn’t lose status because of extended time spent away. I used to be here a lot, but until yesterday hadn’t posted in (I think) over a year.
Then again, the site is one of my home tabs in Chrome, so technically I’d get logged in every time I started my browser, even if I didn’t even glance at that tab, so maybe that’s what kept me on TL2. I dunno.
What is TL3? Mod-level stuff, or mini-mod stuff like Citizen Crossing Guard kinda housekeeping stuff? I don’t remember. I was just happy to get into the speakeasy.
TL3 marks you as a regular and is what gives access to the lounge. It has a high bar for entry, and you lose it if you don’t keep up. There are similar but higher thresholds for that. There are currently 16 users on this site that have that status.
It is one of the features that was effectively disabled back at BB in relation to the events that created this site.
There’s also TL4, which is manually granted by staff in order to help with some limited moderation duties. We have (as of yesterday) 2 users with that status.
