Oh, and Asshole Johnson:
Nothing quite says you have no actual power like losing and throwing a tantrum, taking your ball and going home.
Heâs Cartman.
Did anyone see the latest exchange with Schumer?
Did I hear him correctly? Was he asking Booker if he heard that Lindsay Graham stated that the Republicans in the Senate will vote to remove the filibuster?
Wasnât Graham one of the senators who was most vociferous about keeping the filibuster?
Of course, more than 10 minutes have passed since then, so itâs entirely plausible that he might have flip-flopped on this (as he has so many times on so many issues).
Yes, and I believe that was brought up in the exchange. They both mentioned that the Republicans will regret this decision if they follow through with thile threat. (I was working with my back to C-SPAN, which is why I was wondering if others who were listening heard the same thing.)
[Cromwell] commanded the Speaker to leave the Chair, and told them they had sat long enough, unless they had done more good, crying out âYou are no longer a Parliament, I say you are no Parliamentâ. He told Sir Henry Vane he was a Jugler [sic]; Henry Martin and Sir Peter Wentworth, that they were Whoremasters; Thomas Chaloner, he was a Drunkard; and Allen the Goldsmith that he cheated the Publick: Then he bid one of his Soldiers take away that Foolâs Bauble the mace and Thomas Harrison pulled the Speaker of the Chair; and in short Cromwell having turned them all out of the House, lockâd up the Doors and returned to Whitehall.
Thomas Salmon, Chronological Historian (London, 1723, p106)
I think the Republicans can play all the procedural games they want, given that I suspect all of them know that Emperor Trump makes it all moot. Filibuster, no filibuster, prorogue or sit through, they donât care if it might be used against them later when the house flips, because 1) they donât expect that the house will ever be allowed to be Democrat majority again, and 2) even if it does, it doesnât matter. Trump can now, and will, just confiscate any allocated funds and redirect all resources anyway.
Welcome to the beginning of the Rump Congress.
am i reading that bit about @realannapualina âbeatsâ johnson in this vote?
Anna Paulina Luna was the deciding vote to allow new moms in congress to vote by proxy? âLooney Lunaâ from Tampa? that woman cray-cray to the 9th dimension, man! how? (broken clock syndrome came around even for her?)
i am most surprise!
i thought MAGAt women hated women, especially.
again, i ask - did i read that correctly?
Okay, I think it was NOT the filibuster but the GOP extending the expiring tax cuts by a simple majority vote, which they cannot do procedurally but are trying to get around the Parliamentarian to change make up the rules. That is why they were saying that the GOP will regret making up rules. The Democrats can always do this when they have the majority.
(This is why I was asking. I didnât hear the entire exchange. Appreciate, the F-ing NY Times has the story.)
Heâs still going. I hope he makes 24 hours. Thatâs impressive. I donât think I could talk for 24 minutes straight.
Heâs clearly trying to go longer than Strom Thurmond did.
ETA: This is history, by the way, so those of you into witnessing history should probably try to watch it somewhere. YouTube, CSPAN, somewhere.
truth!
i fervently hope for Senator Booker to outlast the fkking rascist son-of-a-bitch, thurmond in his âspeak-a-thonâ on the pincipal as well as the obvious optics of the matter.
may Senator Booker also outlast that rapist, illegitimate father of (how many?) children of Black mothers in longevity and, above all, influence.
We had to drive 38 miles last night to meet my FIL at the ER (it was a scare, but heâs fine), and we noticed that the TV in his room didnât have any sports, any news, any local stations except PBS or even C-SPAN. We really wanted to watch Senator Booker last night, but they only had Disney, MTV, VH1, MeTV, PBS, Nick, Boomerang.
My hypothesis is that the hospital doesnât want anything that could adversely affect a patientâs heart or blood pressure (like ESPN or the news).
And thereâs the record.
âNow it is provided in the new laws that while no one of those who are on the list of the Three Thousand may be put to death without your vote, the Thirty shall have power of life or death over those outside the list. I therefore strike off this man Theramenes from the list with the approval of all the Thirty. That being done, we now condemn him to death.â
â Critias, leader of the Thirty Tyrants of Athens, as quoted in Xenophonâs Hellenica
Booker ended his speech at a bit over 25 hours.
I was getting worried for him. He was starting to get pretty shaky. But, wow, 25 hours is amazing. Thatâs not beating the record, itâs shattering it.
