Eliminating the sub-minimum wage would be far more beneficial for service workers.

That was pretty quick…

Yeah, that… and raising the minimum wage overall!

Well at least he got to be Ranking Member of the Oversight Committee before he died. They can put it on his gravestone, I guess. He’s been replaced in the interim by Stephen Lynch. When Lynch was in the Massachusetts state House of Representatives, he introduced legislation to amend Massachusetts’s hate crimes law to allow the gay panic defense, so I’m sure super glad he’s in there. (/s for that last bit after the comma)

Goddam Democratic leadership are willing to cede the entire Progressive wing of the party to oblivion rather than actually oppose the fucking fascists. I think I’m gonna be sick.

According to Kylie Cheung at Jezebel, the problem with Nancy Mace is that she must be mentally ill to do what she’s doing…?

She’s just an attention seeking asshole grifting her way to fame on the MAGA train. Nothing more, nothing less.

Now, if she was assaulted and had these images shared online, revenge porn fashion, then, let’s hope the accused men are successfully taken to court. However, she does not seem to be doing that. She is literally grandstanding in congress over it, and using it to shield herself…

In many states, tipped workers can legally be paid sub-minimum wage on the grounds that they can theoretically make up the difference through tips. It doesn’t take very much imagination to consider all the reasons why this is really terrible.

How about increasing wages and standards so that workers don’t need to rely on tips, and so that we can do away with the tipping culture here that nobody likes anyway.

Not sure if the Senate will stop this disaster or not, but I guess that’s our only hope at this point. They had to make it substantially worse to get the far fascists on board, but here we go…

Meanwhile, Mace is fucking grifting on sexual assault. God, these people are the scum of the earth.

I think the thing that irritated me the most when this happened is just how much the argument from the Dems came across like ā€œhe’s served his time he deserves this for his long careerā€ as if it was an ice cream reward at the end of a run.

I’d say that the fact that his last year of service is now a dark punchline is sadder.

Reeks of management by attrition.

That’s bad enough in a regular job but in this particular job people hold literal elections to stave this off and these folks are still like this?

The more conservative wing of the party could have washed it’s hands of AOC this way too. Like, oh how sad he had to withdraw to battle cancer. I guarantee if they put enough pressure on him he would have done the right thing.

Then it’s like the GOP with MAGA: ā€œWe wish we didn’t end up leaving this radical in this position… oh well.ā€

Especially now.

It’s not like he wouldn’t have continued to have health insurance if he left. And two full government pensions. And a high net worth.
