My father had an Accutron. The watch that pinged instead of ticking. He stopped wearing it in the early 1980s and started wearing a generic quartz watch instead. I never knew why.

I can think of 3 resons why:

1. Running out of spare parts.
2. I don’t know when they stopped making batteries it used but now days they have to be modified to run on modern batteries.
3. That was the style of the time.
