Thank you! That was my first thought: does she not know she’s part of the government?
For extra fun, I’ve occasionally tried explaining to people who’re railing against “the government” that it’s not some monolithic entity and can cover everything from your friendly local public library employee (hi there!) up to the president as well as everything in between. Inevitably their eyes glaze over long before they grasp the idea because they can’t see that helpful staff member or the postal employee that brings their medication right to the door as part of the “evil” Government.
I’m sure the whole story is: perhaps the military was flying a couple of things they don’t want to talk about. Once Fox news got on it, everyone started looking up into the sky and thinking planes and stars were scary UFOs. Plus, of course, some people are posting bullshit for clicks and clout and giggles. Then every asshole with a drone started flying their drones to look for the other drones.
They’re drones. Period. That’s it, that’s the story. This is working up to be a nice panic, isn’t it?
Someone saw an increase in nighttime drone traffic, okay. FAA says “If you want to fly at night, you must have a drone pilot certificate and your drone must be equipped with required lights.” Having those lights means more people are seeing them, which means more get reported, more people look to the sky, more people see them … repeat ad nauseam.
Is it just a slow news week (really?!?) or is someone really trying to work up to a good frothing public hysteria?
Andrew Tangel, enterprise reporter covering aviation safety and regulation for The Wall Street Journal , breaks down the latest news about the unidentified drones flying over the tri-state area and what the federal response has been so far.
US aviation authorities have banned the use of drones in 22 infrastructure sites in New Jersey and another 29 in New York state for 30 days after a spike in drone sightings in the eastern US.
The measures allow the government to use “deadly force” against unmanned aircraft if they pose an “imminent security threat”.
