May they both end up like the Duke brothers in Trading Places :
I’ve seen a bunch of these, now:
also:
If we’re being generous, it looks very much like a number of (mostly hyper-cheesy) sci-fi movie cars and concept cars - from the 1980s.
E.g.
“The Dungeonmaster” movie, 1984:
“Metalstorm,” 1983:
“Total Recall,” 1990:
The Citroen Karin concept car, 1980:
Aston Martin Bulldog concept car, 1980:
Weird that something so explicitly retro is being presented as “futuristic.” It’s a nostalgic trip to the past, almost like he wants the future to look like the 1980s… South Africa.
I say again: deep down, Elon is still a spoiled 14 year old boy with a stack of 1980s Omni magazines under his bed next to the porn and Mein Kampf.
As if the DeLorean was designed by someone on a ketamine bender.
It’s worse than just using glue. He was saving money by using flour and water.
This is what “the future should look like the future” means – his idea of it was set as a teenager, the last time he learned anything. I still do not believe it is a coincidence that polyhedral cars, AI-driven cabs, Mars colonies, neural implants, and even boring machines are all featured in a single action movie with a three-breasted prostitute that came out when he was 19.
(It looped, where I lifted it from.)
To be fair, John DeLorean was probably on a cocaine bender the DeLorean was being designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro.
That just shows me which drug is less deleterious for design work.
True. There’s a reason most engineers prefer uppers.
There ya go…
It’s always been obvious that Musk didn’t understand the science fiction he read, but yeah, it really does seem like not just Total Recall but also Bladerunner are his roadmaps for the future, both movies about space colonies, AI and exotic sex workers. (I recollect he kept a replica Bladerunner pistol by his bedside, which seemed a bit odd at the time, and now makes sense.)
Tesla’s self-driving system put to the test.
Spoilers:
It is fucking useless at detecting kids in the road when compared to lidar
Excellent comment:
Of course they prefer uppers - building downwards has always been boring.
Why anyone would believe this is beyond my comprehension.
Additionally, Viking 1 went to Mars 50 years ago. A full half century ago.
Futureboy is still behind his grandparents here.
