Another reminder that among other problems, Mosk is foolishly sucking up to a wannabe dictator.

Well, maybe not a failure from the data-scooping techbro oligarchs’ perspective. We’ll see, maybe soon.

Yes, I get it, they’re not saving money for taxpayers and making things run more efficiently like they claim they are. What we don’t know yet is if they’re also failing at what appear to be ulterior aims.

I think that even though they seem to fail, many people still support these people and believe the propaganda. I keep wondering what these people really want to achieve by destroying the entire State?

I suspect they want to privatize its various services so billionaires can have more billions, and to scoop up our data in the process so they can use that to lord over us.

The predictions included here seem frighteningly plausible to me:

Don’t worry. Even if they can’t make any cogent use of the data they stole, and don’t know what the jobs they ended actually did, the security breeches they introduced will weaken the country for generations to come so they definitely achieved something.

Department of Government Efficiency. They want to removes people who limit their efficiency to do what ever they want to do. Some Germans did similar things in the 1930s.

Yes and no. The Nazis replaced personnel, but kept the administrative systems and structures largely as they were. They also kept experienced personnel that was ideologically sound or could be expected not to object.
Gregor Strasser had designed the NSDAP’s internal workings to match the existing governmental systems on every level (municipal, provincial, state), making the NSDAP a state within the state.
After coming into power it was very easy to integrate both systems, which is why it went so damn fast. Resulting in what was in many ways a reversal; making the state an organisation within the NSDAP. Staffed with people who knew how to do their jobs efficiently.

DOGE etc. are their very own brand of technocratic fascism. There are similarities, of course.
(To my mind, there really isn’t a universal definition of fascism, ironically it can be quite diverse - but you know it when you see it.)

True. I think Umberto Eco did a good job providing a checklist in this essay:

So he plans to fire scientists from CDC and send them to the mines? Sounds right on target for this fascist idiocracy.

To fight communism we must do as they did: We will send specialized workers and highly trained technicians to work in mines, factories and remote regions, in case they are disloyal and our leader feels threatened.
