Apparently Musk’s belief that the thousands of Teslas all sending ‘experience’ data back to base creates such a magnificently rich database from which all Teslas’ software can be updated is why he thinks he does not need all those sensors, and - critically - LIDAR.
From the Guardian article:
Musk has long described Tesla vehicles as part of a collective neural network – machines that continuously learn from one another. Think of the Borg aliens from the Star Trek franchise. Musk envisions his cars, like the Borg, as a collective – operating as a hive mind, each vehicle linked to a unified consciousness.
When a journalist asked him in October 2015 what made Tesla’s driver-assistance system different, he replied, “The whole Tesla fleet operates as a network. When one car learns something, they all learn it. That is beyond what other car companies are doing.” Every Tesla driver, he explained, becomes a kind of “expert trainer for how the autopilot should work”.
I still can’t get over Musk cutting all the various sensors from the Teslas because human beings can drive using only vision. Missing out on the other really important thing human beings use, that’s notably lacking in cars: a human brain. (Of course, if I was in a car driven by a human being who was deaf, blind in one eye and lacking all color vision, I’d not be too happy about that either.) That he thinks a neural network is going to somehow make up for the fact that the car can’t tell the difference between an object that’s light colored above the horizon line and the actual horizon…
And Stormfront. Based on some recent output I’ve seen, it’s fully into “the Jews are behind everything bad, and it’s perfectly reasonable to say that” territory.
Edit: e.g.
That BBC article about “Bitcoin Beach” is in stark contrast to how Zeke Faux described his experience when he traveled there as research for his book Number Go Up. He found that most businesses there didn’t accept Bitcoin at all, and the very few that did only did so as an attempt to attract a few Techbro tourists, but the business owners didn’t actually like using it. Even 17 years after its invention Bitcoin is still a terrible, slow and inconvenient way to make small financial transactions.
MechaHitler may claim to be efficient and unyielding, but we all know that every minute or so he’s going to reveal a weak spot for you to fire rockets into. You just need to be quick enough to dodge his attacks until you figure out the pattern.
They should, but the question is will they? So many people just seem to mindlessly buy into the whole idea of the genius CEO and that Musk fits the bill despite off the evidence to the contrary. For some people, they just see fascism as one ideology out of many, and as long as it allows them to make a profit and controls labor, they don’t care who gets hurt or killed in the process. For every Schindler, there were thousand of german business owners, big and small, who just accepted the new situation, in part because it gave them a new form of labor that they could easily exploit. I’m sure many of them are seeing (or telling themselves) what he’s doing is just part of a process to get to a place to fully unleash capitalism. If a few of us end up dead in some camp, well, so be it…
The values of their brokerage accounts trumps every other concern in their lives.
They’ll jump if he’s ruining their longer term prospects. And piss him off by selling and shorting his stock. He’s still pissed at Bill Gates for shorting his stock a long time ago.
And maybe he’ll completely decompensate in the meantime.
