Maybe nothing, or maybe corporate fear from their overlords. @mindysan33 had observed in another thread that the typical link from the overall suite of sites was no longer nestled between AV Club and Splinter where it traditionally is. I had then observed that I had one of their articles from a few days ago (focused on paying an Etsy witch to “curse” Kirk) open in a separate tab. I had read half of it when it first went up and got distracted without finishing it. I went back to finish it after the shooting and I couldn’t get it to reload. That particular issue was likely a me/phone thing, since it is still accessible and even has active comments when navigating directly to their home page. But the odd removal of the link on the overall site page is suspicious and suggests some drama brewing.

Indeed. It’s really disgusting to see people on MSM lionizing this fucking guy as some sort of “conservative” personality that was “brave” enough to “debate” people with “opposing views” in “good faith” as if he was Abraham Lincoln or something.
No, fuck that. This guy was a fucking awful person with awful views. He espoused racism, hate, and misogyny. He took these views and went on tour with them in an effort to bring more money and brainwash young people to join him.

I got wind of my asshole brother assholing.
His transgender child lost their long time dog, best friend, and companion who’s been with them through thick and thin yesterday.
Asshole couldn’t call or text any words of support because asshole was too grief stricken by the death of another asshole.
I occasionally get feelings of regret for going 100% no contact with him but then stuff like this gets back to me and that feeling passes.
Kirk’s followers are not moral people.

It might not have been televised, but judging from the number of adults who saw the gruesome video against their will, I’m certain that there are children who saw his death. And, I feel terrible for them! I saw a small, far away video of the moment, and that was bad enough, when he was 10 pixels high.

Gun violence has no place in a just society. Someone like Charlie Kirk also has no place in a just society.
And no just society would decide that Charlie Kirk’s death alone is important, when on an average day 125 people in the US are killed by guns, and gun violence is literally the #1 killer of children in the US.
Kirk made his career by spreading hate, bigotry, and disinformation, he’s partially responsible for the present political hellscape… and frankly I think he also shares partial responsibility for his own murder.

This site is a social media platform, or something like it. We’re fortunate enough to be largely obscure and overlooked by most of the Interwebs, but I’m not comfy with setting a precedent that might lead to our cyberhome getting shuttered someday.
For all its flaws (and it has many) I think Bluesky serves a similar function-- a place for like-minded folk (of whatever kind) to keep in touch and share information and laughs and maybe help each other or work together for a good cause. There’s a lot of other garbage involved, sure, but I’m not opposed to the concept of social media platforms, even if the execution tends to get enshittified. And I DON’T want the fascists in control of it, or other places like it. We need third spaces in cyberspace, too.
This, of course, does not include Twitter/XChan. That one is lost. It used to be fun, but I’m not sure there’s any way of saving it from the toxic waste dump it’s become. (Though I suppose it still has some usefulness in serving as a containment chamber/litterbox for trolls-- if it collapsed tomorrow the rats would try to flood other platforms and that would be awful.)
