As an American citizen, I strongly oppose these changes to replace “gender” with “sex” and to define sex as a binary rather than a spectrum. EO 14168 is fundamentally flawed, as it flies in the face of our shared values of freedom, individualism, and a love of human rights for all. Therefore, creating policy based on it is fundamentally at odds with our values.
First, trans men and women deserve the right live out their lives free from discrimination and harassment, especially by the government. Limiting their right to have the correct gender marker and forcing them to use the wrong gender marker is a form of oppression.
Second, it erases and oppresses non-binary people. Erasing non-binary people is a form of oppression.
Third, this also erases and oppresses intersex people, whose gender is most certainly not a binary. Erasing intersex people is a form of oppression.
These examples reveal that a gender binary makes no sense. Plus, peoples gender isn’t really anyone else’s business and should be fully respected and supported by our government. The US should stand for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all our citizens, not just for those who conform to a particular religiously based gender ideology (that also violates the establishment clause of our first amendment) that ignores the lived experiences of millions of Americans. Traveling with the full protection of one’s government is and should be a human right, free from prejudice. This change is fraught with a deep prejudice against the trans community and intersex Americans. As such, as a patriotic American, I fully oppose these changes to our system of issuing passports.
It reads well to me. Maybe not here, but something I wish was emphasized is that gender and sex being bimodal rather than binary is not a political opinion, it is a scientific fact. Just like with vaccine efficacy or climate change, people can insist otherwise but all it does is cause harm by denying reality.
I assume that this is a case of “Submitted comments may not be available to be read until the agency has approved them.” Perhaps weaponized.

NEW: Retailers like Walmart and Target that have rolled back their DEI efforts have seen a big drop in foot traffic, while Costco, a company that continues to invest in DEI, has seen more foot traffic. While correlation doesn’t equal causation, still intriguing.
