I still don’t know why there are so many reports about drones now as if they’re some mysterious weird new thing. Lots of stories reporting that they have been seen, but I’ve seen none addressing why some people would even consider that interesting.
There are over 1 million registered drones in the U.S., about 400,000 people with licenses to fly however many drones they want without registering each one, and an even larger category of drones that don’t require a license or registration.
It’s almost like immediately after the election, the reporters all had a sudden gap with nothing to fill it and just got together and said “Hey, here’s something we can make a big deal out of to get people riled up!”
I have an online friend on another forum who’s in New Jersey, at the epicentre of this, and has had them fly low over her house, and she says they are not helicopters, planes, balloons or regular drones; they are low enough to see that.
Yeah, it’s clearly a display of power, meant perhaps to demonstrate the state’s ability to punish oh so severely anyone who threatens it effectively.
If the point of that escort service were actual protection of the suspect, or of us (from the possibility of his escape), the weapon-wielding thugs would be surrounding him, not leaving the front open like that for reporters’ cameras.
Anyway, as you said, the irony is that what actually got enhanced was the perception of Luigi’s power, not theirs.
