My view is that police officers should be held to a higher standard than the rest of us. That means violence under color of authority should be viewed with even MORE skepticism and care than violence by random people. I realize Iām in the minority in that (maybe not around here, but in the general US population).
Authorities identified the police officer who died as Joseph Seals, 39, who was part of a programme to confiscate illegal weaponry in New Jersey.
Speaking to reporters, Jersey City Police Chief Mike Kelly said Mr Seals was a āleading police officer in removing guns from the streetā
Mr Kelly said an exchange of gunfire first erupted at a local cemetery just after 12:00 local time (17:00 GMT).
It is believed that Mr Seals was killed while approaching the suspects.
Note: thatās not a picture of the attacker. Thatās one of the victims.
Calvin Munerlyn, 43, was shot in the back of the head on Friday at the Family Dollar store in Flint, Michigan, one of the US states hardest hit by the pandemic.
He was attacked after telling 45-year-old Sharmel Teagueās daughter she could not come into the shop without a state-mandated mask.
āOur reasons for being down there with guns was to, 1. Be a visual deterrent; 2. Itās our Second Amendment right to open-carry in this state; and 3. We just want to prevent any violence from spilling out from that protest,ā said the groupās local commander, John Curtis Burks. Heās 33, wears a military cap and says heās works private security.
Rather than acting as a deterrent to violence, observers say the presence of the militia shouldering their assault-style rifles had the effect of escalating the mayhem.
[Edit] And an articleā¦
Apparently DC is getting in on the legal fun as well:
Ms Boeber owns a restaurant called Shooters Grill in the town of Rifle, Colorado, where members of staff are encouraged to openly carry weapons, as is permitted under the stateās laws.
āEven though I now work in one of the most liberal cities in America, I refuse to give up my rights,ā Ms Boebert says in the video posted on Twitter on Sunday.
What an asshole.
Why does she think that one of her ārightsā is the right to break the law?
Rhetorical question, obviously.
Because she was raised by and hung out with people who share the same moronic belief that somehow their desires supersede the basic human rights of others?
Oh right, sorry, rhetorical questions arenāt supposed to have answers, I keep forgetting that.
