Hacking into one's own computer with no skills (XP, believe it or not)

Here’s one for y’all. Can one still get bare-bones stuff for computers? My tablet keys qwer-uiop stopped working, and I think it’s a pinched wire. I can do it if I can get the wire and connectors.
