Healthcare PSAs and BSAs

I’m glad the other parent got it done! It is a normal thing and an important thing!

You probably already know, but just in case someone doesn’t: The HPV vaccine has had a huge impact on cancer rates already and not just for people with uteruses. The CDC estimates a large percentage of throat cancers 60% to 70%, are HPV related and the rise in throat cancer among men is due to HPV.

Any adult who hasn’t had the HPV vaccine should consider getting it as well. It isn’t too late. Gardisil-9 protects against 9 different strains of HPV. Even if an adult has tested positive for HPV in the past, they can still be protected from different strains. The side effects are very mild, too.

My daughter got both doses. As I told our pediatrician: we are a vaccine positive family.

Trichotillomania is a very real thing, I see it occasionally. Severe enough to cause a large bezoar? Yeah, not so much! But this:

The teen’s doctors would have liked to get to the bottom of her condition and referred her to a psychiatrist after she successfully recovered from surgery. But unfortunately, she did not return for follow-up care and told her doctors she would instead see a hypnotherapist that her friends recommended.

makes me post this:

But I rather suspect there will be a lot more usage of that particular image in the coming years…

During CDPH’s investigation, all household members reported having symptoms and specimens were collected from those people. All test results from members of the household were negative for H5 bird flu, and some family members were positive for the same common respiratory viruses as the child.

We screen for PPD at newborn visits, but cannot treat it. In one recent case, we discovered that a large local OB group by policy will not deal moms who are experiencing it and will only refer to psychiatrists. With a 6-12 month wait list. I cannot for the life of me understand refusing to deal with a fairly common complication of pregnancy, but there you have it.

My wife’s mom had PPD back in the 1960’s. They used ECT. :scream:
It’s no wonder she never trusted doctors after that.

Perhaps they are not wrong; it would be nice to get the study reproduced.

The HPV vaccine has been recommended in the US since 2006. New study out today shows that cervical cancer deaths in young women in the years that followed have plummeted, decreasing 15% per year from 2013-2015.
