C. auris is a scary bug, but at least so far has largely been limited to ICU nosocomial infections. Now, that’s not great, but it should make it easier to control because it’s dependent on us medical professionals to spread it around. The problem comes when you start considering understaffing, exhaustion, corner-cutting, all the things that happen when you demand more and more from fewer and fewer people. Somebody skips a step in room cleaning, doesn’t clean their hands thoroughly, jumps to an emergency situation without stopping to change PPE, because “they are coding, get me some help! Now!” (Said Doc in his previous life.) It’s a predictable outcome of a broken system. It will get worse, because this mess for sure ain’t getting better.
I don’t think this is very surprising. This thing is frighteningly adaptable, and has shown it already, but just staying current, yeah, raw sheep milk is bad news as well. I no longer have faith the US CDC will be permitted to keep us informed, so watch European and Canadian sources for breaking news. I will continue to monitor CDC, but with a very jaundiced eye.
Oh, and this is nice as well:
It’s a race between H5N1 and measles to see which can get up to pandemic status first. We (l)ose either way. (Edited to fix typo)
I read that as “We ooze either way.” Eep!
Well, that’s not wrong, I guess, but yeah, eep! (edited)
Well, we do.
I’m kinda waiting for whale flu at this point, just to complete the set. Yes, it’s a thing.
I hear if you rub a pet rock three times counterclockwise it will protect you from the measles.
A Tiltok influencer told me so.

Well at least that’s not enough to give you rock poisoning.
OFFS… I think this is probably not necessary, but here we go.
Deficiency of Vitamin A is associated with worse outcomes in measles, especially as related to ocular injury. There is some evidence that the infection itself depletes the body’s Vitamin A supply, mechanism unknown. The recommendation is to give 200k units of Vitamin A every 24 hours x 2 doses in cases of measles, for this reason. And only if an infection exists! There is no preventative function here. MORE IS NOT BETTER!! I know, that is horribly unAmerican to say, but it is true. In high doses, Vitamin A can be quite toxic and cause liver damage and even death. Don’t be stupid, talk to your doc, and for God’s sake, get yourself and your kids vaccinated if you/they are not already!
