This is so fucked up.

Typical behavior of dictators. For years, we had outbreaks of meningitis in the country during the dictatorship of 1964-1985. The military tried to hide the disease from the population until the situation became unsustainable.

Fun personal anecdote. I still have the scar of this vaccine. How we hated this “pistol”.

Yeah, indeed. The hope by the fascist is that an outbreak like this will wipe out the opposition
it’s always a fucking death cult. :rage:

They also fear the outbreaks could show how weak and incompetent they are. They fear people taking the streets protesting against their policies. So, if they hide the truth, better for them.

This one will be huge if it goes against us, as I pretty much expect it will. Well child care and preventative health screenings without additional cost have made a huge difference in things like cancer survival and catching developmental issues early. If this goes away, we are back to the bad old days. I look for pre-existing conditions to be next on the chopping block.

Next? I wouldn’t be surprised if they found a way to put it in this ruling.

I don’t disagree with you, but it also is up to the insurance companies. They may not be required to provide the screenings, but their actuaries may very well decide to continue doing so, as it is also cheaper to address issues early than pay large amounts later. They may be evil, but aren’t always stupid.

“Pre-existing conditions” (i.e. medical history) being de-mandated would be a nightmare, however. That and no longer covering children until they are 26 is what keeps me up at night.

(eta: IIRC, the insurance companies filed an amicus brief in favor of the birth control requirement in the Hobby Lobby case, saying they were fine with it since birth control was cheaper than the cost of carrying a baby to term.)

So with the FDA being dismantled, any chance we can bring back radium water as the hottest new right wing toxic masculinity trend? Or it yet another case of “will believe literally anything at all with no supporting evidence or scrutiny, as long as it’s not what you wish they’d believe”?

Seems worth quoting here beyond the uninformative headline, since some of us won’t click through:

a study published last year suggests up to 13 percent of people diagnosed with dementia in the US may have a misdiagnosis and are instead left struggling with a condition that can be treated.

“Health care providers [must be] made aware of this potential overlap between dementia and hepatic encephalopathy, which is treatable,” said Virginia Commonwealth University hepatologist Jasmohan Bajaj in July 2024.

Hepatic encephalopathy – cognitive impairment caused by liver failure – impacts more than 40 percent of patients with advanced liver disease (cirrhosis). The brain impairments it causes are hard to distinguish from dementia.

Our livers regulate the levels of most chemicals in our bodies, from filtering them from the blood to aiding with digestion.

Aside from the well-known liver-damaging effects of alcohol, other risks to the liver include the hepatitis virus, high cholesterol, obesity and diabetes, stress, and aging. But if caught early enough and with the right treatment, damage to our livers can be reversed.

Much of this can be mitigated through changes in diet and behavior, and there are even more potential drug treatments on the horizon as well.

I am sure some have forgotten this, but the ones who are actually doing it have not. So long as they don’t kill so many people that it affects their bottom line, they think it’s a great idea.

The effects of THC on people are believed to be caused by the alteration of the action of various neurotransmitters in the nervous system. In dogs, ingestion of large amounts of raw marijuana may cause gastrointestinal irritation, resulting in vomiting and diarrhea.

The time of onset of clinical signs depends on the dosage ingested and the route of exposure. Clinical signs of THC poisoning in dogs include incoordination and stumbling, drooling and hypersalivation, depression, disorientation, drop in body temperature, dilated pupils, and slower heart rate. More than 50 percent of affected dogs dribble urine. Dogs may also show tremors. The size of the dog, its age, and any underlying medical conditions it may have also play a role in the duration and severity of the intoxication.

Severely affected dogs may vocalize, become hyperexcitable, and show increased sensitivity to light, sound, and motion. Dogs eating large amounts of marijuana edibles may be unable to rise and appear to be in a stupor.

Although the margin of safety following marijuana ingestion has consistently been reported to be very high, the lethal dose is apparently about 3 grams per kilogram of body weight. A 2012 study published in the Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care reported the deaths of two dogs after eating foods made with THC butter. At our practice, we have seen two tiny Yorkie brothers, both weighing less than 5 pounds, succumb to the ingestion of marijuana edibles. They died as a result of respiratory arrest.

Studying marijuana intoxication in dogs is essential not just to protect dogs’ health but also because canine poisonings can serve as a sentinel for what could happen in children. Dogs and children are the unintended collateral damage of increasing edible marijuana use. The marijuana industry could do more to improve labeling and product safety, develop uniform standards for identification of the strength of various strains, and regulate the purity of the edibles more strictly.

Holy shit! When will they propose making people wear colorful, geometric patches?

I see/hear a lot of worrying about this. You can absolutely keep your pre-existing condition.
