āDeterrent?ā I donāt think thatās it at all. Itās dehumanization as entertainment, to āproveā that these folks are not truly human at all. āLook at this! What kind of subhuman beast would tolerate this kind of treatment! Strong white men would have taken over the place by now!ā The camps are next, then the ovens.
Today I realized the things became a nightmare in less than 6 months. Although Mr. Trump and Mr. Musk promised it, I think nobody, and even me, didnāt pay much attention.
There were some of us who predicted this would be the outcome. They made no secret of it at all. Look at all the folks crying āI never thought this would happen!ā When they said openly that this is what would happen. All we can do now is figure out how best to generate resistance. This is a primer on that topic:
But these are the camps.
Thatās a real possibility. Putting them beyond the reach of American courts will not continue to be necessary if they are not brought to heel, though. And the use for threatening us into silence is greater if they are domestic. Iām not evil enough to imagine all the possibilities, but I suspect they are there.
Maybe Iām sometimes a pessimist, but as bad as it is, I actually expected it to be worse by now. This isnāt to say things are good, itās more like āhuh, Iām surprised the fire hasnāt gotten to this floor of the building yet.ā
Iāve been running into a lot of people on reddit, and other spaces, who clearly donāt know anything about the history of immigration in the United States. Specifically, I see a lot of people trying to claim that when it says āany personā in the Constitution, as opposed to āany citizenā that it still means just citizens, or maybe that it means just people here legally. But hereās the problem with that, and Iām sharing it here so people have some information to share with others. The 14th and 15th Amendments, which include some distinctions between āany personsā and ācitizensā were ratified in 1868 and 1870. The first laws restricting immigration in the United States werenāt enacted until 1882. Also, the naturalization process originally consisted of nothing more than being in the country for two years without getting into any trouble. In other words, the concepts of illegal immigrants, legal immigrants, undocumented immigrants, permanent residents, etc. DID NOT EXIST at the time the Constitution was written or at the time the 14th and 15th Amendments were ratified. The framers of the Constitution and those Amendments could not have intended the term āany personā to apply only to people here legally, because ANYONE WHO WAS HERE WAS HERE LEGALLY. Anyway, hereās a good resource with a timeline of US immigration law.

Iāve just signed up for the HO! Valencia event this Saturday. Includes a march on to City Hall.
FYI: HO! SITE IS NOT COMPLETE FOR EVENT LOCATIONS. SO I GOOGLED FOR EVENT NEAREST TO ME. GOT VALENCIA AND ADDRESS FOR STAGING AREA.
Getting my mental ducks in a row hereā¦
Do you suppose we can expect that to lead to arguments like āthe constitution doesnāt apply to this, because it wasnāt a thing when those amendments were ratifiedā? In other words, using the lack of legal immigration framework at the time of ratification to mean the constitution can be ignored today.
No. Not if they want to use the Originalist arguments they claim to love. Scalia would have said that while they may not have anticipated the existence of āillegal immigrantsā, the language of the Constitution is clear and ambiguous, and if modern lawmakers want to change that meaning, the proper way to do it is amend the Constitution.
Ah, but thereās the rub. The only internal consistency I expect here is a flexible approach regarding arguments, i.e. making up any old shit that fits as they go along.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed via an email that during the course of a federal law enforcement investigation conducted on Thursday, March 27, Border Patrol agents āencountered seven individuals determined to be in the United States illegally, including two minors,ā all of whom were not part of the initial investigation.
CBP says it took those seven people into custody, processed them, and then turned them over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
It also confirmed that all those individuals have been transferred out of New York State and are currently awaiting removal proceedings.
āNot involved in the investigationā¦ā Target of opportunity. āTransferred out of stateā¦ā Make sure they are far from any support. Typical fascist strategies. God, what a disaster.
Doors are snapping shut everywhereā¦
This is beyond disgusting. I feel so awful for those kids and their mom.
