This is the fourth story I’ve read this year about past records coming back to haunt people when they attempt to enter the US. I’m glad those affected are sounding the alarm so others can avoid a similar scenario. Still, it makes me wonder how agency systems tag that information, and if there has been tampering to ensure any prior encounter with law enforcement leads to an arrest / detention.

She was released to obtain documentation about the allegedly expunged convictions and presented them to Ice officials at San Francisco airport on 21 April, after which she was again detained and sent to the facility at Tacoma, said Holladay.

The US Representative Jimmy Panetta, a Democrat from California, said it was “unfathomable” that a reportedly expunged, decades-old crime could be used to deport a legal permanent resident who was a productive member of the community.

I hope her hearing sheds some light on this, especially with the figures from this article posted by @ObakeBakaNeko:

The government claims that ICE has detained “the worst of the worst.”

ICE acknowledges that some of its detainees are guilty of minor offenses, such as traffic violations. Approximately 6,300 people have been arrested for driving while intoxicated. Another 9,600 were arrested for open assault charges. Another 1,500 people were detained for illegal weapons possession.

And most of these charges are ones MAGA cult members would have and, to the best of my knowledge, have not been shipped off to a foreign torture prison due to it.

A brother in law of mine was a DREAMer, got caught with weed and was deported as part of it. Few years later, it became completely legal in my state and convictions were pardoned and purged. His can’t be because the deportation overrides it. Lived here for 25 years, sent to a country he left before he could walk for a crime that usually only gets you jail time at best (depending on judge).

I guess I’m glad he was deported by Obama and not Trump because I wouldn’t be able to see him on FaceTime if he was in the gulag.

I’d wager that the past criminal information is now available at the Federal level because of the Real-ID system that everyone was forced into.
