Years ago we adopted a tortoiseshell cat whose shelter name was Titmouse. Unbelievable. We changed her name to Gloriosa.

My chunky kitty’s name in the system was Little Full, and the name his fosters had given him was Potato. Yes my boi is hefty but both names were a no-go for me, he’s Cosmo. And if i could go back in time i wish i could’ve also adopted his brother. Having 5 cats instead of 4 would’ve been a lot, but i still think about him.

Potato doesn’t even suggest a good nickname. Potty? We considered that problem with Titmouse. Titty didn’t seem like a good choice either. And Mouse is just insulting for a cat.

We called Gloriosa Glori for short.

Tatty. Or Spud.

I’ve had cats that i called “dog” (see: ChiliDog Cat, MadDog [deceased]) and one, a very long time ago (this is the time machine thread), was called - very affectionately - Mouse! such a cute little thing with mousy gray fur…
i still miss Miss. her name was Miss Inclined, a tortie manx that went everywhere with me…
however, i have a habit of referring to all my cats as BooBoo, even now in a four cat household, they are all BooBoo.
but i often shorten it to Boobie.
so, Titmouse would eventually be Boobie, in my place where the cats rule, but i get to call them Boobie, because i already lie to them…
i always answer, “yes”, and “i know”, and “i understand” when they meow at me.
especially Boobie.

if i had a time machine, i would be nicer to all the stray cats and dogs that ever crossed my path. it’s the Bhodisatva way…

Our first cat was a rescue my parents never wanted. They were never cat people so they refused to name it so they referred to her as kitty, my younger brother managed to eventually win them over on keeping the cat but by then the cat ended up being called Kitty.

Spud would indeed be cute!

Dyson’s main nickname was Nuisance,or (for some reason) Snuisance.

Our tabby was named Pablo, but we called him PupPup because he had a dog-like personality. He absolutely loved to greet people when they came to the door.

He was very smart because he knew when we referred to him as Pablo he was in trouble. :joy_cat:

But Mouser would work.

Tay-toe

My wife switches to Spanish to yell at the cats. They seem to understand they screwed up.

One of my kids calls all small animals MoMo. No idea why. It’s cute, but I do wonder if the animals realize she’s talking to them.
