Goes great with your avatar too!
Indeed!
I do loves me that Gothy shit
[the date that were taken is the img’s title. oh, and I got those great black suede Shelly of London elf boots in '96 for five freakin’ dollars b/c strap missing!!!]
Yes, this is intentionally mirrored. It’s printed on clear sticky tape with a label maker. You can stick it on the inside of a car window or a glass door or whatever.
Everything about it is wonderful, but the j tails, the UC Q, and those numerals are esp tasty !
Love Love Love! the LC & UC Gs !
Too bad this site doesn’t show the numerals - they’re great too
This thread reminded me that I bought a pack of fonts ~9 years ago in a Humble Bundle:
After Impact, or Collision:
Bike Courier 2:
Cosmic Sans:
Halfvetica:
Sans Sans:
Times Old Roman:
Unicharacter:
That reminds me of a line from Charles Stross’s Saturn’s Children, where a character was described as speaking in comic sans, with hearts dotting the i’s.
Yeah, I sometimes do that when I’m drunk. And in cursive, too.
You reminded me of the book Atet, A.D. (haven’t read; still on my list), where the characters suddenly start speaking in speech bubbles. (Not sure whether any fonts are specified, though)
I develop an Irish accent when I’m really angry. Spoiler; I’m not Irish, nor is there any Irish in my background.
UK comic/QI, etc host Sandi Toksvig said her Yankistani accent returns when she’s tired.
She was born in the States, and was sent to a UK boarding school. She grew tired of the other girls’ endlessly bagging on her American accent, so she imitated the brats and quickly developed a fake English one.
I have no idea where mine comes from though; it’s completely random.
I think that’s pretty cool
that’s kinda funny. i tend to mirror the speech patterns of those around me. i don’t consider this code switching, as i would never mimic a Black or islander vernacular, but slip perilously close if say, i am drinking with my Haitian friends watching footies at the bar… (oops! caught up in a moment, i suppose.) but i admit - sheepishly - to falling into my very broken “Spanglish” when fishing or (especially) drinking with my Cuban and Puerto Rican neighbors. they laugh at me because my Spanglish is heavily based on my growing up and working with Mexican people, and it just doesn’t translate at times! speak english, white boy!
that said, what are y’all’s typeface/font suggestions for a Caribbean island feel in display text?
please none of that bamboo-looking “tiki” shit… so overdone
Found a few good ones at one of the jernts I “quoted” above:
Search results tropical - Page 1 of 2 | 1001 Free Fonts
ooh! nice!
thanks for the linkie!
have to see how i can incorporate some into my “Postcards from the Conch” series of mailings based on island themes.
It’s cheesy AF, still, I’m quite fond of the palm trees one
ETA:
My faves - in no 'ticklar order - from those 2 pages:
Tropical Party - noahtype
Tropical Qebalon - Storytype Studio
That would be, I don’t know,
or
maybe?
Uugh. The T and G are all wrong. This is better
Would be nice to have the tittle over the b to get the v sound, but whaddyagonnado.
