I tried to find the Helismaa and Goodman biopics online, but I can’t find Kulkari ja Joutsen anywhere yet. Rentun ruusu is on archive.org, but there are no captions . That one in particular sounds pretty interesting. In his IMDB I saw that he played another character named Ahti in Studio Impossible (which I also can’t find online ), but I don’t know if there’s any connection or inspiration involved there. I’m striking out on finding things today!
Today’s the first day I’ve listened to it, but this song has been on my mind since the election:
When Universes Collide
That whole album is awesome… my second favorite by them, me thinks… after Underdog World Strike, though Super-taranta is awesome too…
Those 3 albums are my favorite but I can never decide if I like Underdog World Strike or Super-tantra the most.
ETA:
My favorite song is still Through the Roof ‘n’ Underground. It was the first song of theirs i heard.
I guess we’re just gonna have to listen to all three back to back to back on repeat to figure it out!!!
ah, hell yeah!!!
Although this song always jams, too…
I love that movie… I love how all the music that gets played in random scenes are only of artists that have committed suicide…… Also, TOM WAITS!!!
Nice to see Multi Kontra Culti vs Irony getting some love but it’ll probably always be Underdog World Strike for me, perhaps because it was the first of theirs i heard. Still vividly remember hearing Sally for the first time in someone’s car and i didn’t like it.
But then Super Taranta! does have very top tier Gogol for me like Tribal Connection…
I saw Gogol Bordello here in Austin TX years ago and it was one of the best concert experiences i’ve had Top 5 perhaps. Near #1 would be Caravan Palace, their live shows are off the hook and i love that they do swing dancing between the band members during their sets
Some fun pics from that 2016 Gogol Bordello concert. Unfortunately a massive amount of the pics i took were either blurry AF or way grainy. But some came out well enough:
From the song Wearing Purple, love how trippy the lighting makes the stage look:
And this is from my favorite part of the show. They put the drum out onto the audience, lead singer jumps on it and proceeds to rock out. It was great, i have a video of some of it. Looks great but it sounds like dogshit but i might upload it if anyone is interested:
Edit: Ok i uploaded my clip. Again the audio sucks, you can prob just watch it muted or just turn it way down.
They really are one of the best bands to see live! Just punk as fuck! Eugene always brings it!
I’ve been eagerly waiting to see them again live! (and Caravan Palace tbh). Some day.
Next year i’ll be seeing Zoë Keating, great Cellist. And i kinda wanna see Andrew Bird in January but tix at like 80 bucks and i don’t think i can swing that at the moment.
I haven’t heard of this band before today, but after seeing this skeet, I gave them a listen and while not my favorite album of the year, it’s good:
Good old Henry! Thanks Hank! Good to see him still supporting local bands from his home town…
I’m still trying to make the mental adjustment towards him. He seems to have mellowed out a lot, and i have an easier time connecting with him these days. Glad he’s out there doing cool shit and bringing attention to people that need it
Yeah, he was a bit of a dick back in the day, from all accounts… But he has mellowed over the years, for sure. He’s kind of a punk grand dad these days.
And all kinds of awesome in He Never Died.
