I discovered (2 years late) that the Hurdy Gurdy festival that is celebrated every year in Rianxo posted a music sampler from the 2022 edition. Here are some of my favourites:

Manu Fraguela and Oscar Fernandez play two tunes with a precision that scares me.

(Manu Fraguela recently joined the folk group Ailรก and they released the first single!)

Tobie Miller is an incredible Baroque HG player, her renditions of Bach never dissapoint:

But is her singing Fear aโ€™ Bhร ta that captivated me:

Do they have any motor powered hurdy gurdys? I could imagine that such a thing should exist, with having maybe a foot pedal or hand lever/knob to adjust the speed of the motor. Looking online and i see that electric ones are made, but i am not finding a motorized one like iโ€™m thinking so maybe my google fu is particularly lazy or inadequate today :stuck_out_tongue:

LOL i guess you could do that makes zero sense as you would lose not only control but also the ability to use the dog (the buzzing string that allows the HG sound like a bunch of angry beesโ€ฆ and also as kind of a drum machine).

Hereโ€™s another good HG player:

Hereโ€™s a much better version of the Feliz Navidad but as Korean protest song you may have heard

I would have translated โ€œget lostโ€ more as โ€œfuck offโ€ but. A+

I recently watched Southland Tales, and this has been stuck in my head ever since.

Call it Gen-X nostalgia or whatever, I listened to this album this morning (itโ€™s been many, many years) whilst cleaning the barn and itโ€™s still fucking awesome.
