get 'em before the tariffs hit!
wow. you couldn’t have know how much i needed to see that!
i have a “drive by” visit from some very conservative family coming up. they always want to know why i make things and never try to sell my work.
Also, good luck with the conservative family members!
People ask my wife “Why don’t you sell that jewelry you made?”
Because she doesn’t want a hobby and gifts to friends/family become a job.
I prefer “Live your life like authoritarians don’t exist”, it gives me so many more options.
Also, if I do what they tell me, it’s only because I chose to because it was a good idea and not because they told me to.
I haven’t yet, but maybe one day when people ask “Why don’t you sell that?” I might answer with “For me, some things can be better enjoyed as an amateur. For example: have you ever considered taking up sex work?”
He had opportunities to turn professional, including the offer of a trial at Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest, but was never interested in the professional game.
& @kxkvi , @nosaj :
it ceases to be fun or enjoyable when money is involved - for me at least.
and that is on topic to this thread.
i share my joy and i receive joy back.
how commie is that?
Yeah. “Oh that’s so neat! You could make a 100 of those and sell them for a lot of money!”
But making a hundred of the same thing would be tedious and defeat the joy I derive from creative problem solving.
This!
What a great analogy!
When I start my garden seeds I always start too many, so much so that I cant give them all away. My daughter has suggested I sell the excess, but if I cant give them away for free what are the odds of selling them?
