One question… pay 40% of our income for? The way it’s framed, it makes it seem like we’re paying those in taxes (which, we’re not, but often that’s rent).

Hmmmm…

The way I interpreted it, it’s ironic that what was a conservative meme has become a commie meme because of the way the working class is expected to subsidize billionaires. Not that it’s anything new, but that it’s so blatant.

(And Mindy and the borderer)

You’re right Duke, or I mean, in agreement with me. It certainly is, initially, a conservative meme, But that Average Joe certainly is, nontheless, overtaxed (though yeah, 40% is an exaggeration), since people like him do indeed pay so much more than the zero or relatively near zero that the superwealthy pay.

I suppose it could be reworked into a real commie meme, by somehow adding billionaires to the picture.

If you take taxes to mean, not just your income and social security taxes, but all the things you need to have a decent quality of life, which most people can’t afford these days, it’s be higher than 40%… In theory, people making below the poverty line are paying nothing in income taxes, but they’re paying in other ways of course. And the middle class carries a heavier income tax burden than the 1% who often have their wealth tied up in ways that means they pay a much lower percentage. The whole system of taxation is becoming regressive, for sure…

I’m not sure it’s too far off in some places. Once you combine federal, state, and local taxes, transportation taxes, tariffs, and add up all the stupid nickel-and-dime fees we end up getting charged to use public resources, I get it gets pretty close to 40%. I look at Washington State, where they are self-prohibited from levying an income tax, and they pay so many stupid fees that it’s death by a thousand cuts for working class families.

Don’t forget the cost of mandated health insurance, which is part of taxes in other countries but is a separate tax-that-isn’t-called-a-tax in the U.S.

I know I’m well over 40% if you add that in.

Also, to a lesser extent the cost of higher education is either completely covered except for simple fees or at least heavily discounted in other countries.

I’m not trying to be a prude or anything, but the bottom (pun intended) 10% of that image could run afoul of our email delivery platform. Also, maybe slap (again, intended) a spoiler blur on it for some more sensitive viewers.

Sorry, I didn’t notice that until you mentioned it. I cropped that out.

No worries. I didn’t notice at first either, and then I couldn’t not see it…

Good meme otherwise, though.
