Many people think WD-40 is a lubricant because itâs so good at stopping squeaks, but itâs really a solvent. The WD (water displacement) is actually evaporating away the liquid and grime it makes contact with. It can actually cause rust by exposing metals to more air.
Itâs a surprisingly versatile cleaning product with many unexpected uses (cleaning leather for one, although Iâd much prefer specialized products for this). But it shouldnât be used as a lubricant.
Yeah, just like superglue, which sticks your skin together so effectively because it was designed as a battlefield suture (is that the right word?)âŚ
Superglue is perfect for paper cuts.
I cannot use it, without ending in mishap.
Brand name regular nail polish remover - not the stuff thatâs safe for All the Things!⢠with whomst nails are augmented - must take its place amongst the superglue ritual equipment.
Store brand/generic nail polish remover is rarely any good, but might be OK for small superglue slip-ups.

Iâve had a pretty good recent record with it, but a couple decades ago, I had a big foil tube of superglue rupture while I was tying trout flies. Luckily it only covered one hand. I ran to the corner drug store and purchased a bottle of nail polish remover and soaked that hand for a couple hours to get it all off.

Two of my coworkers had issues with squirrels chomping on their electronics while parked at work. One of them got a rental car during the repairs and the critters got to that one, too. Eeesh! Two $1,000 deductibles laterâŚ
