It’s also Mafalda’s father’s car.

  • See, this is the car my father is thinking about buying.

  • To brag about what?

  • Would you be happy if your father bought this car?

  • Of course!

  • This is one of the few cars what matters is still the person.

Bit of hyperbole re the RD400 powerband (AFAIR it was predictable), lashing it to a trike kit might have been a step too far.

Funny front end and 80s colour scheme. I have never tried a bike with that kind of suspension, but plenty which dive under braking.

Was the “death machine” power band shared with the RD350 and it’s predecessor the 350cc YR3? I had an early-70s YR3 (I assume, based on the gas tank design), and I don’t remember it trying to kill me. That was on me.

I can remember a razor thin powerband on a mate’s highly-tuned RD350LC which was always catching us out (when it wasn’t destroying itself) but that was more the tuner than Yamaha. The RD400 was a pussycat in comparison.

So I was in a motorcycle apparel shop today looking for a high-visibility jacket and helmet. It was nuts how about 95% of their stuff was either all black or mostly black. The sales guy said he shared my frustration and personally went out of his way to wear bright colors when riding, but apparently black is the color that most customers demand. Even most of the so-called “high-vis” jackets were black with just a few skinny fluorescent highlights. I ended up special ordering a white helmet after test fitting a black one, and will probably have to order a bright jacket as well.

For the sake of public safety we need to find a way to make high-vis clothing cool and fashionable. Some big-budget action films where the badass heroes are all in day-glo apparel rather than black leather.

Based on your profile picture, I assumed you already had a white helmet.

Or alternatively, this one from (I think) Le Gendarme de St Tropez:

& here I thought she preferred going on 2 wheels

(But that part with the Citroen, I do remember from “Slave to the Rhythm”)

Is this why truckers made more money back in the day?

That must have been what they were using in the original Fast and the Furious movie.
