Why was a car inside a sunk World War II aircraft carrier?

Admiral Fletcher was planning to do some surfing when they returned to Hawaii.

During his visit to Rio, the Pope disdained more luxurious cars and wanted to drive around the city in a simpler car. The authorities had to rush to a car rental agency and chose a silver Fiat Idea. The Pope allowed people to approach the car, much to the horror of the security forces, that received several bruises on the bodywork. Today the vehicle is in Minas Gerais, in the Fiat museum and has never been repaired, to maintain the condition it was in after the visit of the late Catholic leader.

I hope at least the seat was still adjusted just the way it was.

This is great. I hope they do a sedan. And maybe offer off-the-rack radio.

I like a lot of what they’re doing with the design, although that’s not an especially good price for what you get, particularly if the Federal EV incentives are gone by the time it hits production. Fairly bold of them to not have any sort of radio, or even just a simple bluetooth speaker to connect a phone to. Even the Changli comes with a radio and MP3 player.

This article questions whether people would be willing to accept a 2-door, 2-seat electric vehicle with a 150 mile range as their family’s primary vehicle, and I think it makes some good points:

A small gasoline powered range extender, perhaps paired with a battery that provides something like 80 miles of electric range, would be similar in weight and cost and be a more attractive proposition for many people if this was going to be their only vehicle.

I hope it succeeds though!

Edit to add: I’ve seen it pointed out that “Slate” is an anagram of “Tesla.” Not sure how to feel about that, especially given that this company is being financed by the second-wealthiest person on earth. The comparisons will be hard to avoid.

Mom said she’d only consider buying an EV that could go from Detroit to Chicago [280.01 mi (450.63 km); call it 300 miles] on a single charge.

Bonus: (?)
I have no idea where our nearest charging station is.

Oh, and has the charging interface yet been standardized, so any EV can be charged at any station?!

Real bonus:
Somewhere in the greater Detroit area, an experimental EV-charging road has been built.

She could buy a used Fisker Ocean with an EPA-rated 360 mile range for really cheap, but probably shouldn’t…

“…Taking a curve on a freeway overpass feels like you’re on an old-fashioned roller coaster with your body needing to exert some force to keep yourself from being dumped out of the seat.” …

I doubt she’d’ve enjoyed a car that all too often felt like riding a difficult horse.

I would have freaked TF out, scrabbling at the windows. Big bridges and overpasses creep me out, esp steep and/or harshly curving ones, and that would’ve induced full on
