If their claimed fuel efficiencies are achieved they could fly the jets using sustainable aviation fuels produced with carbon neutral technologies and still spend less on fuel than current jets do. If only we had a government that actually was willing to mandate that sort of thing…

Had it actually been able to drive under its own power, I have to wonder what the torque steer must have been like on that.

I mean, why not? My car with a torque converted automatic transmission is able to seamlessly disconnect itself from the engine on the fly to save fuel. I imagine this could be really efficient on something with that kind of weight that can likely cruse a pretty significant distance on inertia alone.

Not a bad idea. I could point out that the Pennsylvania Railroad already solved this problem in 1910.
