Caught this the other night. Heartbreaking. Awful.

Had a new one today that I thought y’all might be interested in. Mom of one of my autistic patients came in asking for a disabled ID card for her son because he had an encounter with LEO over walking while brown and autistic and it led to the cops coming to his school. I had never heard of it, so I looked it up. Turns out, there is such a thing, sort of.

Not sure if such things exist in other states, but worth checking into!

The important thing with those is to confirm that local LEOs know what they are and how to handle the situation, because otherwise you’re reaching over to your glove compartment while possibly finding it hard to talk, or shaking, or some other ‘suspicious’ activity that makes them assume the worst.

In a lot of other countries (including Europe and the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and most of the Americas except for the US) there’s the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard.

You can get them in the States too, but most people have no idea what it is.

> possession horror where the thing possessing the autistic character causes them to behave in a more neurotypical way.
