Case in point:
Not sure if this is the right place for it or not, but something happened to me today and it’s made me feel pretty gross.
I was downtown to see my therapist, and as I was leaving their office, this really skeevy guy catcalled me. I say catcall, but it was more like an invitation to have him do some really disgusting and violent things to me. I tried walking away but he followed continuing to spout his filth until I got in the car, when he finally turned and left saying I was lucky he didn’t kill me and that I was a fucking bitch.
I’ve been catcalled a few times since coming out, but never like this. I was shaking and probably shouldn’t have been driving, but I had to get out of there asap. It scared the hell out of me.
I hate that this is tolerated. There were dozens of people in the area. Not a one of them did a damn thing but walk away.

That’s awful! I’m so glad you are safe but very angry you had to endure that.
Thanks. It’s awful how women and other femme-presenting folks are seen by such a large portion of the population as nothing more than a sex-object, and more importantly that it’s so tolerated by society at large. I was basically being threatened with SA and death, and nobody did a damn thing.
I’m now nervous about going to see my therapist, and it took me forever to find one that’s good with queer identities AND polyamory. I need them, and now I’ll be looking over my shoulder every time I go to their office.
But yeah, we won. Feminism isn’t needed anymore.

Part of the issue is that there weren’t any other women there, just 4 men. If there had been at least one other, to pick it up with something like:
Yeah, I mean, usually I go for keys or my heavy bag, but there was that one time I had to bring an iron to the front door…
Something like that, so the conversation could take off with the men just looking quizzically until they started to realize what this conversation THEY’VE NEVER HAD WITH THEIR BUDDIES was all about.
More police protecting sexual abusers for longer than originally though. GRRRRRR. So much could have been prevented if they actually listened and did their job.
