On the one hand, I agree that if anyone deserves it, he does, and it’s necessary that he be kept away from potential victims for public safety.

Well yeah, I expect my taxes to go towards decent, well-run prisons that make sure prisoners are treated like people. I don’t want to put good money towards anything I’m ashamed of.
And, but this is hard to explain, I think a decently-run prison is essential to both rehabilitation and punishment. For people who are going to get out again, it’s important they’re treated decently. For people like McArthur who probably aren’t, it underlines what decency is.
Why do I get the sinking feeling that later this year we’re either going to elect Trump-lite (who will only criticise Trump when US nationalism hurts Canadian nationalism), or the guy who cuts people loose the minute the ship even wobbles, let alone starts sinking.
Right now, I am depressed about that.
We might get lucky, and Scheer might be subject to vote splitting between him and Bernier. Bernier is doing better than I credited him for, and most of that is coming from the xenophobic right, which will draw off Conservative votes at a much higher rate than Liberal or NDP.
Couple that with the fact that we have a fairly weak NDP under Jagmeet Singh, and it looks like Trudeau is in a pretty strong electoral position despite not being nearly as popular as he was last time.
It could still swing Scheer’s way, but this isn’t the last Ontario election: Trudeau still has quite a ways to fall before he’s gifting the country to the right like Wynne did with Ontario.
Trudeau is the guy cutting people loose. Every time the PMO’s office is implicated in anything, he shifts the blame.
Since then, Trudeau has denied he did any such thing. On Monday, he said in Vancouver that he’d told Wilson-Raybould that any decision on the subject was hers alone.
That is classic bad-boss speak for “we got caught, but you’re expendable”. Maybe I have just heard it too many times, but it’s hard for me to see that as anything other than “you have failed me for the last time.”
Canada, you’re supposed to be the nice country!
Ryan Jarvis, who filmed his students using a camera pen, had been acquitted by two lower courts.
In his first trial, the judge ruled it could not be proved the photos were taken for a sexual purpose.
But the Supreme Court of Canada ruled Thursday that students have a right to expect that their bodies will not be photographed in school.
Nice ≠ good.
There are a lot of similarities between Canadian Polite and Minnesota Nice.
The Venn diagram is quite nearly a circle, to be sure.
Come on. For that price, you at least need to throw in Vermont.
Just point out to TPTB that Bernie is from Vermont, and we can probably not only get Vermont thrown in for free, but a substantial discount (> 50 %) on the entire deal. Then Bernie can take over the NDP.
Is that $1 trillion US or CDN dollars? I also note that with the US debt at about $22 trillion and climbing fast, they’re going to have to look at selling many more states. Has anyone approached Putin about selling Alaska back?
According to the petition, Jesusland is shrinking.
They think Canada has that much money to spare???
Even the Westons don’t have that kind of bread.
Hence why Vermont is needed to make the deal palatable.
That would give the Quebec maple syrup industry some interest, for sure.
Build that wall and make Jesusland pay for it!
I am quite aware of what you did there.
Nah, that’d make it awkward to annex more states as the fragmentation increases.
Do you really want caravans of Jesuslandians* pouring across our undefended border?
*Some, I assume, are good people.
