Oh. I didn’t know Joel was doing that. What movie did they do?
Deathstalker 2 (somehow the first one made enough money they did a sequel)
ETA a non MST3K version is on youtube…
There can never be too many Deathstalker movies.
I think Deathstalker II preceeded his turn with the Warriors from Heck.
Joel was bestest. Back when MST3K was a goofy late-night thing on St. Paul PBS, guess he figured no one outside the Twin Cities would ever know of the show - he was bunny-eyed for most of ‘em.
I came in on ground zero with MST3K, watched it in college on UHF channel 45.
They were in the middle of riffing “City on Fire!”
ME: Did someone leave the studio mike on?
What are those shadows at the bottom of the screen?
Is that a dog?
Big fan ever since.
Am I wrong in wanting the other deathstalker to get adapted?
Final movie for the fall quarter. The Car. Umm yeah a demon possessed car terrorizes a desert town. There really isn’t much more to it than that other than it seems happy to quickly kill everyone but the hero. Still a lot of fun and a nice 1970’s twist on a creature feature. Some bog standard characters but everyone does a good job of playing the parts and nobody is phoning it in.
I remember seeing this one in the theater. Possibly the second run $1 show that we could walk to.
I think Stephen King said somewhat nice things about this one, so it’s a likely inspiration for Christine. (Yeah, I know, this is not much of a surprise.)
I remember watching that on USA or one of those basic cable channels that were still on when the networks stopped broadcasting.
It had it’s moments.
Indeed it was. But then it was made by George Barris so how could it not be.
They made 4 of them for the film and 2 were destroyed during the shooting.
Speaking of avenging car movies (is that a Netflix category) I’m reminded of The Wraith
I remember liking it high school, but know it would not stand up.
But…
It is on Amazon Prime Video…
any thoughts on the clovehitch killer?
The Barris website is… very well designed even if it’s dated. Meta-metal.
What about avenging tire movies?
That was better than I expected it to be.
So I watched The Ballad of Buster Scruggs today. Let’s just say the trailers don’t give the right impression.
The first two stories are rather lighthearted (like Raising Arizona or Oh Brother), but they become steadily darker towards the end (like Miller’s Crossing or The Man Who Wasn’t There). As always, a great smorgasbord of character actors. Stephen Root is funny, but almost unrecognizable.
Kubo was amazing. My daughter and I are animation junkies. We were all over that. I’ll try to dig it up, but what it took to animate that opening scene - so inventive and a labor of love.
I loved how the mom is depressive and still a great mom in her own way; she is a survivor. Not a mother figure you see a lot in kid’s movies.
Happy Turkey Day my fellow cinefile mutants.
