Over/Under-rated movies: the redux

I remember really liking this movie when I saw it in the theater, but not sure I’ve seen it since.

Randy Quaid is good in the Vacation movies but I also like him in The Last Detail.
Dennis is great in Breaking Away, along with the rest of the cast.

Jack Quaid is better known as Hughie in our house - we watched Lower Decks after (probably, timing is a little fuzzy) the second season of The Boys.

That’s a lovely essay. Now I want to rewatch it, as I don’t know that I’ve seen it since I was kid (and I loved it then)…

Oh, that’s Meg Elison. I know her mainly as a great podcast guest.

As a child I lived not too far from Munich where large parts of the film were made. Every summer our town offered a various activities for kids during school holidays and a tour of the film studio was one of the classics. At the time they had props and parts of sets of Enemy Mine, The Neverending Story and Das Boot.

Do you think they skipped over Tim Russ simply to generate comments?

Having recently learned he was in the movie, I was surprised he was not mentioned. Seems like a natural place for a joke. Perhaps they thought the trailer was long enough already?

ETA — I was also surprised they also said George Wyner wasn’t a celebrity.

I almost never encounter people talking about Hill Street Blues online, so perhaps he’s not a celebrity anymore. For that matter, I wonder if his name, as opposed to his face, was that well known in the ‘80s.

To me he will always be Matt Houston’s accountant.

Ah, a deep cut. I used to watch MH, but remember exceedingly little about it. Mostly just the episode with the killer robots.

This might not be previewing properly. It’s not the full movie, just one key scene.

“Who are you?”
“A friend… Bye!”

Doesn’t seem especially different from how that scene goes in the original theatrical cut.

Some things can’t be improved.
