It’s all about the long-lived, not-concentrated filth nature of their poop, right? Something to do with poop, for sure.
that would certainly fill a hole.
But, unfortunately, the paper as a whole is secured to subscribers.
here’s what the nytimes article said
In Northern Australia, grazing by water buffalo, the largest herbivores since the continent lost its giant marsupials, reduces the frequency and severity of wildfires, Mr. Lundgren said. Feral hogs, whose rooting in soil increases tree growth and attracts bird flocks, are replacing ecological work done by extinct giant peccaries in North America. The well-digging behavior of feral mustangs and burros in the American West most likely echoes the original American horses, which died out about 12,000 years ago.
Colombia’s hippos have multiple analogues: When they leave the water at night to graze in meadows, they take on roles similar to extinct giant llamas. Their daytime defecations in the waterways — a keystone of many African river habitats — dump massive amounts of nutrients into underwater systems, much as a vanished semiaquatic rhino-like animal might have done.
So some poop and a lot of digging.
I wonder if a similar development led to Eukaryotes.
Aw, this research is clearly full of crap.
No, I couldn’t resist. Why do you ask?
It’s amazing they predicted it so close! What I’d like to know is how long did it take for the smaller hole to traverse the accretion disk.
This whole thread is good, about true/untrue things:
I grew up near an Air Force base, and we used to go out in the dessert a lot as teenagers. We saw so many UFOs! I mean, they were unidentified to US, though I’m sure the Air Force had a handle on every one of them.
So, I love UFOs, even the conspiracy theories! I think they’re like myths and legends, fairy tales for a modern age. Hopefully the Bad Astronomer wouldn’t think I was killing my brain cells!
Myths, legends, spirits, aliens, and … airships?
I enjoy UFOs too. Wherever they’re from.
I’ve added that to my listen list!
The Dollop is amazing. “What was it with people in the 1800s and hats?”
Magic robot slaves for mass murdering those pesky problems:
Is this for Science News or Apocalypse Watch?
I think it’s also for the issue that they think it’s going to work. Is it 1963 again? Because the “science” of AI is way below fusion reactors in even understanding the parameters.
That has led to allegations that Mr. Schmidt is putting Google’s financial interests ahead of other considerations in his defense work.
Reeeeeeally?
Definitely good to keep in mind in our fast-evolving situation. But make sure you’ve thought of some really good pronunciations for ®.
