Right, because men are seen as the “default” person… I’d rather we default to having it be a woman, if I’m being honest, just because it bucks that trend of men as default. Maybe that should be part of the poll?
That’s a good point. In my list above, I chose “person” for the shrug but the “woman” for the face palm, not because those are appropriate genders for those reactions, but mostly just because the shirt color is different and they’d be less likely to be confused when seeing at a small size.
Yep. I didn’t even notice I defaulted to male for things like stuffies/toys, pets, and people of unknown gender for a really long time. It wasn’t until my kid was old enough to start insisting everything in our life except her father was femme that I realized I had that habit and started trying to change my thought patterns.
I love your kid!!!
I believe she was probably only 18 months when she began correcting me. I’d say “he” “his” when referring to a stuffie and she’d give me adorable toddler stink-eye and say “[stuffy] GIRL” the kid is awesome
I like this set. This is my favorite hug emoji too. For some reason the other one reads to me like a person waving off something unwanted. Like “nono” which made it take me a while to figure out when I first started seeing people use them!
Even to this day knowing better I still look at that drawing and think “I dunno… Looks more like the gesture people make when some one on the street tries to sell them a ”
The thinking one would be my only ask. And either the angry one, facepalm or eyeroll would be nice too
Agreed. I find the “hurrah” and “applause” can be used interchangeably, so I’m good with either.
@Kii Agreed 100% for representation in emojis!
Thank you everyone for your participation!

I think that’s all of them so far. Please let me know if there are any that I missed.
I’m absolutely on board for different skin tones and genders, but let’s see what the set ends up looking like. I’ll just put the yellow/person versions in the poll, with the understanding that the exact variant can be decided afterwards, if only to keep the options somewhat reasonable. I agree with @MrShiv that some variety would be useful since shirt colors change on the human figures. There are six skin tones total, so we have plenty of options.
I also realized that the poll above is not a ranked choice, but a simple multiple choice. There’s a third-party ranked choice voting app that I’m aware of. I’ll look into that as a possibility.
Thank you for putting in all this work!
How about some cats?
I do prefer this open mouth to the yellow circle
Kitty is more expressive of the shock
And, FWIW, I like over
I do find myself using this from time to time:
Yes!!! Polite request for one kitty!
Going to agree with @CleverEmi. Shock-kitty is far more expressive than emoji-face in shock.
But I would vote for most anything shaped like a cat.
This sounds suspiciously like “640KB ought to be enough for anybody”, pretty sure I have used more than 10 different emoji to react to friends on different technological platforms today.
Here’s some of my frequently used:

Why not just implement the complete emoji palette and call it a day? That way when new emoji emerge and trend in popularity (still hoping for the joy + vomit emoji, BTW) you don’t need to re-poll and ask “Ok, now which 10 emoji should we use”.
I’m just going to go out on a limb and guess that would make the interfaces for selecting and for viewing reactions very cumbersome, especially for mobile users. And it’s not like we can add a more options button or anything since it’s not us coding it.
