Proposal: Pick your reaction emojis

I know you’re joking.
I hope you’re joking.
Do not do it.

I’ll 'ave a word with the feathered menace.

So we would also need a mechanism for flagging reactions?

ETA, @Kii already anticipated that

Ugh… I just thought of one to maybe add… the Vulcan salute, if it’s available!

i’m not sure how useful that is as a reaction.
it is, though, how i sign off my emails to Dear Brother.
i dunno?

I’d assume it would be the only reaction in the star trek thread… Sometimes you do need to indicate “live long and prosper” I’d argue!

Maybe I’m just being a trekkie partisan!

We absolutely need this  .

Here are my thoughts, based largely on the way I have typically used emoji reactions in the past. These are just for illustration - I’m in total agreement that variation in characteristics (skin tone, species, etc.) would be great.

  • “Agreement”. or :+1: mean about the same thing; is  “free”, in the sense that it doesn’t require a separate entry on the emoji palette? That might leave room for something else people would like.
  • “Excellent post”. I use  for this, when I think a post is especially good.
  • “You made me think”. (suggests “I hadn’t considered that before”, as well)
  • “Sympathy”. I think :people_hugging: might be better than :hugs: for this.
  • “Celebration”. :tada: seems more obvious to me than :confetti_ball:
  • “Stunned”. :open_mouth: (also good for “wtf?” situations)
  • “Extreme distaste”. Definitely :face_vomiting:
  • “Sadness”. or :sob:
  • “Anger”. I prefer :rage: or  to :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
  • “Joy/funny”.,, :joy:,
  • “Ummm”. :person_facepalming: is more of a “you can’t make this up” for me, and :person_shrugging: is “I have no idea what they were thinking”

I don’t know if that helps, inflames, or tanks the discussion, but I wanted to contribute my thoughts. Standard disclaimers apply, your mileage may vary, void where prohibited by law, etc.

i agree with all of those and your example applications. that is the menu i am imagining and would use.

You know, I always used this more in the manner of “Huh, I don’t get it, gotta think about that”.
Was usually enlightened a post or three later.

For me, also means sarcastically trying to make sense of something that doesn’t make sense.

But I would like having it.

I was always afraid this was the intent when someone reacted to one of my posts with thinking face

When I ran a discussion board, we had a full palette of emojis and it was definitely fun for everyone to have that freedom to use them.
I think these days people have moved on - we can still use emojis in posts if we like. For reactions, i think having a set is a good idea.
I like what’s been proposed so far. We can always adjust once we try out a list.
