And a quote:
In a 2018 interview she said she was very proud of her work, but horrified when she saw far-right protesters giving Nazi salutes celebrating Donald Trump’s win of his first presidential election term in 2016.
“I am disappointed, which is putting it mildly,” she said. “I thought we had done away with the Nazis – finished, kaput – but it [fascism] is coming back. What is going on?! Horrendous. You do feel rather let down.”

Oops - should read the thread first. But worth repeating a second time - she was a remarkable woman.

In a statement, Bletchley Park said her contributions to the estate’s work during the second world war and to ensuring its legacy, would never be forgotten.

They said: “Betty was not only a member of the incredible team at Bletchley Park during world war two, but she also dedicated much of her life to raising the profile of Bletchley Park in more recent years.

“Her tireless efforts in bringing the history of Bletchley Park to a wider audience, through sharing the stories of those who worked here, helped ensure that the vital role of Bletchley Park during world war two and its impact on the conflict was recognised.

“Betty’s passion for preserving the history and legacy of Bletchley Park has undoubtedly inspired many people to engage with the story and visit the site. Betty’s impact at Bletchley Park will be remembered for many years to come.”

Tess Dunlop, historian and broadcaster, said she was with Webb on her final day. Posting on X, Dunlop said: “Betty was the very best. I was lucky enough to hold her hand yesterday as she gently glided to another place. She is one of the most remarkable woman I have ever known.”

Damn. Val Kilmer is definitely one of my favorite actors, and he had been struggling with his health for a long time so the news isnt a surprise but it is still a bummer. I might have to rewatch one of his movies this weekend :sob:

As a fan of any and all 70s TV Sian Barbara Allen was always great in anything she did.

Her entire obituary is lovely.

Here’s a small part of it.

As her talent matured, her opportunities grew. She was soon hired as one of the last contract players at Universal Studios. Sian quickly began to have starring roles in most of the successful television series of the times, including THE WALTONS, MARCUS WELBY, MD, BONANZA, GUNSMOKE, CAGNEY AND LACEY, LOVE AMERICAN STYLE, THE ROCKFORD FILES, COLUMBO, ADAM-12, KOJAK, HAWAII 5-0 and THE INCREDIBLE HULK, among many others. She was also the first woman to write a script that was produced for BARETTA, in 1978.

Sian appeared in a long list of films with major stars (who almost always became friends). In 1972, she starred in YOU’LL LIKE MY MOTHER with Patty Duke, Rosemary Murphy and Richard Thomas; and for that film, was nominated for a Golden Globe as the Most Promising New Actress. That role was quickly followed in 1973 by SCREAM PRETTY PEGGY with Bette Davis; a 1974 western, BILLY TWO HATS, with Gregory Peck and Jack Warden; and in 1975 a TV movie called ERIC opposite Claude Akins, John Savage and Patricia Neal. In 1976, Sian played Ann Morrow Lindbergh opposite Anthony Hopkins and Cliff DeYoung in THE LINDBERGH KIDNAPPING CASE.

Sian’s favorite things in the world were her family, mystery books, C-SPAN, poetry, all things Ireland, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon’s Graceland album, mac and cheese, root beer floats and bacon cheeseburgers (no lettuce or tomato). She lived her final year of life in North Carolina, surrounded by all of her favorite things, new friends, and more time with Emily than she’d had in 35 years.

In lieu of a service, Emily asks that you choose from the following actions to honor Sian:

  • Donate to a local, grassroots organization working to combat systems of oppression

  • Donate to AuthoraCare Collective Hospice of Burlington who ensured Sian spent her final months peaceful and free of pain. Please consider directing your gift to support patients and families needing financial assistance to provide for loved ones.

  • Read your favorite book in bed

  • Listen to the entire Graceland album or any of Bob Dylan’s music

  • Eat some mac and cheese, a bacon cheeseburger or drink a rootbeer float

  • Share a favorite memory of Sian here

then we have very different recollections of Dennis, you and i…

DB and i would rather go outside and play together than watch Dennis the Menace. i was always afraid he (Dennis) would get me in trouble for shenanigans i might be up to at the time…

ETA, still sad for Mr. North. Seventy-three is not terribly old, really.
