RIP. We'll miss you

Maybe none of them are owned by billionaires?

(And I don’t think they’re alone – The Nation and Mother Jones quickly come to mind.)

I wish. Town & Country is owned by Hearst and Teen Vogue is a Conde Nast publication. And Rolling Stone is now owned by Jay Penske, son of Roger Penske, and he also owns Variety, SXSW, the Golden Globes, and the Billboard charts.

ETA: Roger Penske endorsed Trump in 2020. I don’t know about 2024. And I don’t know if his son shares his politics, but I suspect these publications just have more editorial freedom for some reason. Maybe because they aren’t magazines centered on politics, I don’t know.

He certainly seemed like one of the better Popes (not that it’s a high bar or anything). He appeared to “walk the walk” when it came to living and espousing Christian values more than the other Popes that have been in power throughout my lifetime.

Ok, that’s pretty great.

Agreed. I heard an interview with a gay Jesuit priest this morning who said that it’s no exaggeration to say that he did more for the cause of LGBTQ rights than all of his predecessors combined. You could certainly say it’s still not enough, but I’d take this guy over any other pope that I know of. Certainly better than his predecessor who was literally a member of the Hitler youth. (“Unenthusiastically,” but still…)

I mean, he still condemned “gender ideology” as a threat right next to nuclear weapons. I appreciate him actually caring about poor people and Gaza and so on…but is it really so hard and so much to ask not to hate on anyone who’s just trying to live a decent life?
