Our good friend Steve has died. I’ve known him since I was 7 years old. I inherited one of his early works from my father.

This one hurts.

I remember watching his show as a kid. It was weird and fun, and probably contributed to my love of horror movies.

I also had the privilege of helping run a book signing for him when The Ghoul’s sCrapbook came out. He was a genuinely friendly guy.

He was the oldest England international and held the record for being the youngest manager of a league team, he took charge of Carlisle United in 1946 when he was 23. He was probably the last surviving football manager/coach from the 1940s.

I met him a few times when I was working for Carlisle United, he seemed a nice guy, so this hurts more than usual.
