Also - he was Gordy the sportscaster on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”. But the controversy over him leaving “Good Times” was a big deal back when it happened.

Quincy Jones, music titan who worked with everyone from Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson, dies at 91

Rich, full life and all that, but I’m certain he still had lots of great music in him which he just didn’t had time to write down.

In the late 50’s, Quincy turned to two legendary giants to study music composition, analysis, and theory— composers/teachers Olivier Messiaen and Nadia Boulanger. Both were very selective of who they would teach, and only the most promising were chosen for instruction. To that extent, Quincy kept pretty good company., with the following students being of particular note: Daniel Barenboim, Elliott Carter, Aaron Copland, Philip Glass, Laurence Rosenthal, Pierre Boulez, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Iannis Xenakis, and György KurtĂĄg.
