This country is broken.

Of the 9 justices, 4 were appointed by presidents who lost the popular vote.

And the Democrats have had 53 days (*) to plan some kind of response to this that goes beyond “remember to vote blue no matter who” and send unsolicited SMS messages asking people to donate to their campaigns. But it seems like that’s all they’ve got.

(*) not to mention, decades of NOT enshrining rights in law and trying to use “we need your votes to stop Republicans from appointing Supremes” as a strategy.

I have a feeling election season this year is going to be messy. Messier than usual, even though it’s not a presidential year.

The Democrats not doing anything about, well, much of anything, and just letting the fanatical right-wingers get away with doing whatever they want really doesn’t bode well.

They’ve been really pushing the line to see how much they can get away with, and that has escalated a lot in the last six years. And so far, the answer has clearly been “anything you want, no matter how dangerous, evil, or horrible”.

The attempted coup was not a one-off fluke. The fact that actual politicians are running the RINO-hunting ad and the old western shootout against Democrats ad are not flukes. The Roe vs Wade overrule is not a fluke. They’re pushing to see what they can get away with and they’re inciting their drones to do even more. That’s to normalize it. So that they can get away with doing much worse.

It’s hard not to think of the “First they came for …” poem. Today they came for the women. And they got what they wanted. They’ll move on to the next line soon.

Thinking of this today: The Supreme Court did not make abortion illegal.

13 states have outlawed it. More are going to.

That means in about 20 states their legislatures are controlled by a religious minority. And the judicial systems are also controlled by a religious minority.

Welcome to the theocracy.
