This arch is part of the Carioca Aqueduct, AKA Arcos da Lapa, built by the Portuguese colonists to bring water to the city in the XVIII Century.

Interesting to know that it’s still in use as a tramway. Thanks for posting this!

I think I have some old pics of the tram. It used to serve the local population, but now is almost exclusively for tourists.

I love MOBOT, especially Seiwa-en.

Somehow we only tend to go during the Japanese Festival when it’s often miserably hot and humid.

Chuhuly! I learned about him just the other day.

It was a nice day for it, but most of the stuff (except the daffodils) wasn’t yet blooming.

On the way out to the parking lot…

“What did you see?”
“A huge red-tailed hawk just landed in that tree over there.”
“Wow, that really is a big one… Look look look! Here comes another one!”
“Are they… doin’ it?”

(photo not so great, but these hawks were definitely doin’ it.)

We’re getting a collapsed retaining wall rebuilt and the contractor has been waiting for the permit. Today I got home to find they’d marked the location of a pipe, but they partially did it by spray-painting the old dead vines and missing the ground/wall entirely.
