Definitely looks like an orchard orb weaver to me. Like all orb weavers, they are generally harmless to humans.

So nice that the store has Veuve Cliquot. The closest place to us that sells it is in Chicago.

'Course if one can afford The Widow, one can also afford to have a case flown in.

I’ve watched video of a Canadian Coast Guard Great Lakes icebreaker in action, and also a couple of a tugboat performing that vital service. It was fun watching that cute little tug zooooming back and forth, sometimes in front of a 1000 foot freighter.

Running an icebreaker is going to be such a slacker job in a couple of years.

They’ll be wearing budgie smugglers on deck, if shit keeps on in its ahem current direction.

Today’s rain was too much for the storm sewer at the bottom of the hill. It spilled over & ran the rest of the way down to the catchment pond (the water’s immediate destination, either way).

Same, about 5 min. later

The cumin version of these are my favourite, and known in the household as “those Donny Darko Papadums”.

Growing up in California, we could buy any kind of booze we wanted from the grocery store. This always seeemd to amaze people from other states, which I didn’t understand at the time.

When I moved to Washington State it made sense. All the liquor store were run by the state, and anything harder than beer or wine required you go to one of those locations. The advantage was there was a huge selection and prices were relatively cheap.

In 2012, privatizing liquor sales was voted into law. This made liquor easier to buy since you could get it almost anywhere now, but more expensive and less selection. It also allowed big box retailers who could buy in bulk to put many smaller specialty liquor stores out of business since they couldn’t compete. Enshitification wins as always. (And I’m speaking as someone that almost never drinks.)
