So I have discovered Steve Shives

I saw this one tonight. Spot on as usual.

This one is not political, or about Star Trek, Superman, Batman, MacGyver, or even Stuffy.

It such a good, elaborate setup for such a simple joke.

I watched most of that one earlier, then got distracted with something right at the end, missed the punchline and had to watch the end twice

Here’s a follow up:

It’s Public Domain Day! (yesterday):

I appreciate Steve’s level of restraint and nuance regarding the actual implications of these changes.

I do have some confusion regarding Singin’ in the Rain. If the copyright term on sound recordings is longer than other media, then does that mean that the performance captured on that The Hollywood Revue is public domain, but any separate sound recordings are still under copyright, or does it mean that unlicensed performance of that movie is still subject to copyright because the sound recording of that song (and others) are included and therefore still protected? It’s irrelevant for Steve’s performance given that the music and lyrics are definitely public domain, but it’s a reasonable question, I think.

Also, that Fritz Lang movie sounds interesting. I wasn’t aware of it previously. I can’t seem to find it on archive.org though.

Kanopy’s got it.

And here’s a restored version that’s even longer, but only in 360p with Spanish intertitles:

I could probably post every Steve Shives video here without regrets, but I try not to.

So here are a few recent ones related to politics:

I keep meaning to join one of his “Ask Away” events to ask him how many wigs he’s accumulated at this point. Also, I believe this was posted before the gold card thing was announced.

This one is so good. These bits where he’s effectively talking to himself are so well done in my opinion, and remind me of Bob Newhart.
