How many must die before RFK’s bloodlust is sated?

Seems like anti-vaxxers aren’t against vaccines specifically so much as they’re against the entire concept of trying to prevent disease at all. I suspect a lot of that attitude is down to some very old-school religious fundamentalism, when it’s not New Age magical thinking or simple sadistic glee at watching others suffer and die while deluding oneself that it can’t happen to you too (or deciding any cost is worth it as long as the cruelty continues).

Measles Case Counts Grow in Texas, New Mexico Outbreak | Healthiest Communities Health News | U.S. News

Up to 320 cases in TX/NM, with the national total now exceeding the total from 2024 (285). And RFK jr is getting ever more terrible in his advice. Just waiting for our first case here. I hate this timeline.

I often think about what the anti-vaxxers would do if there was a polio epidemic. But then if they don’t care if people die, I guess they wouldn’t care if people were paralyzed.

“Don’t do the shots,” the girl’s mother said. Measles, she added, is “not as bad as they’re making it out to be.” She noted that her four other children all recovered after having received alternative treatments from an anti-vaccine doctor, including cod liver oil, a source of vitamin A, and budesonide, an inhaled steroid usually used for asthma.

Your child died!! How can you still say “Measles are not as bad…” I could not finish this article. This shit causes me to question how much longer I can keep doing this…

Just twenty minutes ago I picked up a prescription for budesonide for Crohn’s. It’s a steroid—great if you don’t want your immune system to fight measles.

Idiots.

She can’t imagine that she’s to blame for this for not getting her kid a vaccine, so doubling down is all she has. Part of the problem we’re having with the far right that’s fucking this country up, is that they take no responsibility for anything at all. She just can’t bear to admit that she killed her own kid by buying into bullshit. It’s fucking awful to contemplate.

And it is true that vitamin A is recommended for supportive treatment. Measles apparently can deplete your supply of vit A, deficiency puts you at higher risk of complications. But you know what is even better than supportive care? Not getting it at all! The “half a kernel of truth” found in most of these theories is enough to sow confusion. Why will they not listen to the folks who actually know what they are talking about? We will never know, since study of that phenomenon has been forbidden under Sec Brainworm.

That’s a lot of the denial now. (IMHO) Shielding herself from the responsibility has got to be her primary goal right now. I don’t understand how we got to this point. I used to able to talk reason and science and frequently get folks to at least partially vaccinate, but when it became a political identity issue, that stopped cold. Parents would get huffy if I even brought it up. Back then, fighting the vaccine wars was at least sort of on level ground, and I could say I won as much as I lost. But that was over a decade ago, probably 2. I have largely given up trying to talk parents into vaccinating at this point. If they say no, I just move on. I had parents storm out, I had parents threaten me and throw screaming fits because I even mentioned vaccines. I hate it.

Yeah, you don’t deserve any of that for doing your best by their kids… the kids don’t deserve to be denied life-preserving care. I know this must be depressing for you. I’m sorry.

Local news reports there were two stops in Central Alabama, on the 9th and the 10th. Alabama isn’t that large, so that sounds like there were overnights involved.

FTA: Alabama’s vaccination rate for children under 4 is 77%. Not a question of “if" but “when” :sob:

O’Brien says WHO is looking for other countries or organizations that could fund the lab network. The price tag: $8 million annually.

$8 mil is absolutely pocket change to the US, and to a whole lot of very wealthy people. The idea that we would pull that funding right now just seems equal parts vindictive and stupid. So, I guess, right on par. Controlling easily controlled infectious diseases is so woke, eh?

309 in TX. Another 38 in NM, plus (I think) 4 in OK. This virus does not respect borders. I wish the media would stop acting like it does. So, around 350 currently. In this outbreak. Vs a total of 285 last year, which was regarded as a critical number.

And it is only getting started.

I have a bad feeling that this thread will not get old for a long time.
