So who do we elect this year?

Meanwhile, Biden’s lead in GA is now
Over_9000!
*ahem* So hopefully this won’t have much impact. Would be nice if it ended up increasing that lead, though, considering the amount of “the fraud is going to be exposed!!1!one!!eleventyone!” speculation that has been going around from the Republican mob…

It says they’re his favorite, but his beloved wife makes them with cranberries, not raisins, and chocolate chips. So, really, how can you trust the Almanac?!

I know, right? But I’ll wager he wouldn’t turn down mine or the Almanac’s, lol! Especially if used as ice-cream sammiches!

I watched the speeches in Wilmington, DE made by the VPOTUS- and POTUS-elects. I was in tears. Especially when hearing, “I will appoint scientists…” from POTUS-elect Biden.

I just hope it doesn’t turn into a super-spreader event.

Harris’ speech was great. Biden’s was naive, but the tone was nice. Didn’t like all the Jesus stuff, and the explicitly Catholic stuff. I thought his whole thing was being a president for all Americans?

It’s ingrained?

Oh yeah, and two houses on my street took down their campaign signs that supported the current POTUS. I feel like baking them cookies.

EDIT: One that I thought was gone is still there. Everyone else who has signs has more than one on their lawn - still - supporting the guy who’s in the WH at the present time.

Remember the whole thing about Obama being “secretly Muslim”? I’m not too worried about the early religious signaling if it heads off that crap, especially with the way so many Christian sects in the U.S. view Catholics as “not true Christians” anyways. So long as there’s a clearly-evident separation between the policy and religion…

We’ll hope that goes better than when he tried to drum up Catholic support for the ACA by getting the birth control mandate killed. Thankfully Obama told him to stuff it.

Oh my…

Apparently there’s a “theory” being pushed by some idiot who’s claiming he was “just given the authorization to release this information” since he was “under an NDA” before, spewing videos and interviews with conservative outlets that “blockchain technology” was used in the voting, variously with an “unhackable microdot” or “watermark” or similar such nonsense, such that the Trump admin “knows where every ballot went and where it’s been”, and they’ll release the information about all the corruption any minute now, and oh my god this is such a load of bullshit technobabble but there are actually people out there falling for it.

I just… how much money needs to be pumped into the education system (earmarked specifically for teachers or supplies) to fix this crap? Raise my taxes, fine, just do something about it!

i am fine overlooking that. he’s a catholic, he’s had very hard things happen in his life, and his religion has helped him overcome those dark periods and helped him become the person he is today, and i assume is part of what he’s feeling in this moment. i never got the idea he would let his faith negatively affect his policy-making before, and i don’t now. we’ll see, of course, but still. i’m willing to let him have this moment. he earned it.

And educate the parents, too, if that’s feasible.

Heroic sentiment, but they’re probably a lost cause already. But I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way, show them all the beauty they possess inside…

sorry, not sorry

As a Canadian, it’s that past action that would cause the worry, more than just being Catholic. Up here, Catholic PMs: decriminalized homosexuality, legalized gay marriage, legalized abortion… it’s the Evangelical Protestants who threaten to take it away. It’s the whole “render unto Caesar” principle: sin is God’s job to regulate. No need to get the bureaucrats involved. Basically the Church is seen as a parallel bureaucratic structure that has it’s jurisdiction. Just like there are federal and provincial responsibilities with no overlap, the same goes for Church and state. You go to the feds for your passport, the province for your driver’s license and the Church for all things spiritual.¹ And since there is only one of those allowed amend the Criminal Code, the Church quite often gets told to go to Hell.

¹Except for those spirits that are under control of the provinces. The Liquor Control Board would not be amused by the water to wine trick at all.
