Delayed until 2025-01-12, for now.
Somehow at the time I missed that story from 2022 that they linked to:
Wild stuff! Who knew that building rockets just requires pluck and a willingness to take big risks, rather than book-smarts (such an accurate understanding of history) and prudent safety practices?
I curated an exhibit on flight a number of years ago, at our main library, and before the exhibit was pared down, I was considering rocketry as well, and various staff were helping pull together materials. The gallery curator said βI even found something about a crazy guy who was launching rockets from his back yard!β accompanied by laughter. I said βYou mean Robert Goddard, the father of American rocketry?β
WRONG!
Fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniforms - oh damn!
So instead of capture by atmospheric drag, itβs capture by cryospheric drag?
I donβt think so; I think the theory is that they just collided for no particular reason. No drag of any kind, just on intercepting orbits.
Their adventures read like that of idiot YT influencers who believe that they are invincible up until they become dead Darwin Award winners.
